Architect Registration Examination (ARE) Statistics

The information contained in the following reports represents the performance of candidates on divisions of the national Architect Registration Examination (ARE). Candidates are listed under a particular school based on transcripts received by the Board which delineate the degree earned by the candidate.

Care should be taken in interpreting this information since many variables may affect scores, such as period of time over which data was collected, length and type of work experience obtained prior to taking the exam, and number of times the exam was taken. The Board will continue to refine this data over time to minimize the variables. In the meantime, in the interest of accuracy, the Board requests that any reprint or reuse of this information also reflect its limitations.

Definitions of Report Categories

The statistics under the 10 individual California schools reflect exams taken by candidates who have earned a professional degree in architecture accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).

The statistics under the All California Schools-NAAB category reflect the combined total number of exams taken by candidates who have earned a professional degree in architecture accredited by NAAB from the 10 California schools listed.

The Other California Schools category reflects exams taken by candidates who may have earned a degree from a non-accredited program, a degree from an architecture-related program, or a non-related degree from a California school.

The Other US Schools category reflects exams taken by candidates who may have earned an out-of-state degree from a NAAB-accredited program, a degree from a non-accredited architecture program, a degree from an architecture-related program, or a non-related degree from an out-of-state school.

The Foreign School category reflects exams taken by candidates who have earned degrees from a foreign school.

Candidates who did not complete a degree program are listed under the No Degree category.
