Delinquent Licenses
In order to renew a delinquent architect license which has not been delinquent for more than five years, a licensee must:
- Complete continuing education coursework on disability access requirements within the previous two years as mandated by Senate Bill 1608 (Chapter 549, Statutes of 2008)
- Provide documentation on the license renewal application indicating the course title, subjects covered, name of the provider and trainer or educator, date of completion, number of hours completed, and a statement about the trainer or educator's knowledge and experience background in disability access requirements.
- Complete and sign a License Renewal Application.
- Pay the current renewal fee, any accrued and unpaid renewal fees, and the deliquency fee (partial payments cannot be accepted).
Licenses that have been delinquent for five years or less, are subject to the fees below for the noted renewal periods and the $100 delinquency fee.
| Renewal Period | Amount |
|---|---|
| 2007-2009 | $200 |
| 2009-2011 | $200 |
| *2011-2013 | $300 |
* If the last day of your birth month (the day a current license would expire) is less than 60 days from when you submit this application, then you may pay the renewal fee which will bring your license current until the 2013 renewal cycle. If it is more than 60 days, then you may not renew for the 2011-2013 renewal period.
The renewal fee owed is calculated by adding all of the renewal periods that the license is delinquent and the delinquency fee (if more than 30 days delinquent). For instance, if a licensee missed the 2007-2009 and 2009-2011 renewal periods s/he would owe $500 to update the license to a current status with an expiration date in 2011 (unless you renew until 2013 as mentioned above in which case the total fees would be $800). A license that is not renewed within five years after its expiration date is cancelled and cannot be renewed. Individuals may not legally practice architecture in the State of California without a current and valid license issued by the Board.
