2018 NCARB Annual Business Meeting

The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) is a nonprofit organization that consists of the architectural licensing boards of all 50 states, as well as those of the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands.

On June 28–30, NCARB conducted its 2018 Annual Business Meeting (ABM) in Detroit, Michigan. Throughout the three-day event, delegates received updates about NCARB’s evolving programs and services, voted on resolutions, and elected new officers.

California architect, Jon Alan Baker, was elected as an NCARB regional director (Region 6) at the ABM. Baker, a gubernatorial appointee, was a member of the California Architects Board from 2005 to 2018—including four terms as Board president.

Resolutions are critical to the Board’s mission as they establish NCARB Model Laws and policies/procedures governing the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), Architectural Experience Program (AXP), etc. This year, Member Boards approved four resolutions that will:

  1. Strengthen the role of ethics in the regulation of architecture;
  2. Realign the continuing education categories laid out in NCARB’s Legislative Guidelines and Model Law/Model Regulations;
  3. Eliminate the need for an Education Evaluation Services for Architects (EESA) for architects completing the Certificate Portfolio path; and
  4. Revise the NCARB Bylaws.
